Shaun Read is the founder and CEO of Read Advisory Services, a corporate legal advisory and consultancy services firm specialising in M&A and crisis consulting. Shaun is also an admitted attorney practising as a Consultant with Simpson Incorporated Attorneys. In more than 25 years of legal practise, Shaun has gained extensive experience in matters relating to corporate governance, M&A, corporate finance, private equity transactions, forensics, due diligence and litigation. Shaun has also advised various local and international companies in connection with their general and commercial law matters.

In 2010 Shaun obtained his MBA. Shaun’s research topic has been accepted for publication in International Journal of Aviation Psychology and centres on the practical application of the theory of evidence-based management, which seeks the use of the current, best evidence in management and decision-making. Over time, and using examples from the aviation industry, Shaun have developed an approach to decision making in business that can be applied during times of uncertainty and crisis. Prior to establishing Read Advisory Services, Shaun was a Partner in PwC and Service Leader of the PwC Legal team, from October 2016 to June 2019. In this capacity Shaun spearheaded the drive to integrate the new legal service offering of PwC in a multidisciplinary approach to transactions.

From 2003 to 2016 Shaun served as a founding member/director of the law firm Read Hope Phillips a boutique corporate and commercial firm that advised on some of the largest corporate actions in South Africa, such as the original attempted de-listing and acquisition of Shoprite, the acquisition of Pep Stores by Brait and hostile bid for Adcock Ingram.

Shaun’s other work experience includes:

  • 2000 to 2003 - Divisional Director of the Corporate Advisory division of Brait South Africa Limited (formerly Brait Merchant Bank Limited)
  • 1996 to 2000 - Associate and then Partner of the firm Rabin Van den Berg & Pelkowitz Attorneys.
Shaun has served as a Non-Executive Director of Legacy Hotels and Resorts, which employs some 3000 people and manages 25 hotels across the African continent.
